Siren on NBC’S American Gladiators
Vibrant, exciting, exuberant, these are a few of the words that describe Valerie Waugaman a.k.a. Siren on the hit NBC sports reality show, American Gladiators. Her fiery red hair and her phenomenal physique are her assets that make her stand out as one of the top gladiators. The show airs Monday’s at 8pm (ET/PT) on NBC.
Valerie was picked for the show when one of its producers heard about her from the editor of Flex magazine. They contacted her to audition, so she headed to Las Vegas and after a series of call backs, she was picked as a finalist and flown to Los Angeles for the final round of auditions. Valerie was picked out of thousands of women for the show!
Born and raised in Cleveland Ohio, she has always excelled in sports. In high school track she held 6 school records in high jump (5’10”), long jump (18’2”), 100 meter hurdles, 300 meter hurdles, relay (4x400) and shotput. She also qualified in Division 1 State Meet in 3 events: hurdles, long jump and high jump, clenching the Division 1 State High Jump Championship. In basketball, her 30’ vertical leap helped her propel her team to be a leader in the Division 1 Conference. Valerie was also the Regional All-Star and Conference MVP for volleyball which set up her full scholarship to Ohio University. Valerie graduated with her BFA degree in Graphic Design with a minor in Photography.
After college, Valerie became the Director of Marketing at Octane Café, a fitness-oriented restaurant in Downtown Cleveland, Ohio. A few years ago at the Arnold Classic, she was truly inspired by the beautifully fit pro figure women gracing the stage. Soon after, Valerie competed in her first national fitness event in the National Physique Committee (NPC) “Figure” competition. In 2005, she earned her professional status and has been competing ever since in the International Federation of Body Building (IFBB), Pro Figure Athlete category and has earned 3 International Pro Figure titles. (see competition history below). The exposure in the IFBB has landed her on the covers of fitness magazines: Oxygen, Flex (twice), Muscle & Fitness Hers, Ironman, and H2O.
Valerie is also an inspirational speaker and has created a for-profit organization, FitMission, with the goal of educating and helping billions. Through competing on the Professional Figure Stage, appearances at Health & Fitness expos, Fitness Camps, Corporate & Public Seminars, online mediums and self-motivating lectures to elementary kids at their schools, Valerie and the FitMission team Inspires, Educates, Provides, Supports, Empowers and Evolves people’s quality of life. Valerie Inspires people to improve their current state of wellbeing, to dream bigger - Educates them on how to take their lives to the next level - Provides the tools necessary to change – Supports them through the process of change - Empowers them to stand on their own and helps them Evolve by passing it forward to the next person for positive change. Valerie further expresses these values through her own video series on Bodybuilding.com entitled Fit Mission Revolution!
With a special passion for motivating kids, Valerie is developing a superhero character concentrating on goal setting, fitness and nutrition that kid’s can identify with and look up to as a role model. For Valerie Waugaman, competing is about inspiring people to dream big dreams, and to go after those dreams with all the vigor and energy of a healthy mind, body and spirit. As Valerie says “I ASPIRE TO INSPIRE!”
